| AMOS STODDARD - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 01/14/1813 #AMOS STODDARD In this war-dated letter, Amos Stoddard wrote this letter to General Henry Burbeck in 1813, during the War of 1812. In it, he talks about his impending meeting with future President William Henry Harrison at Fort Meigs. Written less than five months before Stoddard died at Fort Meigs. From the papers of Burbeck, a veteran of key Revolutionary War battles. Autograph letter signed "Amos Stoddard". 1 page, 7¾x9½, docketed on verso. Cleveland, Ohio, Jan. 14, 1813. Addressed to General Henry Burbeck. In full: "Dr General, I am thus far, (in [illegible] any way with Captain Wood), on my way to Genl. Harrison, who is yet at upper Sandusky. I have wallowed in the mud and water from Pittsburgh to this place . The roads, however, are getting good-The snow is now three feet deep- and teams are hourly starting for the army- I shall pursue them as soon as I can get my horses shod. What Genl. Harrison will be able to do this winter , is mere conjecture with me- but, from what I see here, I apprehend, that army supplies will be scarce. I believe the Country produces supplies of every kind in abundance- but they are much scattered- and those employed to collect them, appear to be more diliatory [sic] than the nature of the service will admit.- I have nothing new to communicate- of course I shall be brief - If you take the trouble of writing me, send your letter under cover to Genl. Harrison, of whose family I am about to become a member. My respects to all the officer with you, and am, Sir, your ver [illegible]". This letter is from the papers of HENRY BURBECK (1754-1848), a veteran of key battles of the Revolutionary War. He was chief of the Artillery Corps when he received these orders.
